Juventus’ left-back Alex Sandro is set to renew his contract with the Italian club.
The Brazilian defender will be renewing his contract for one more season which would make him stay at the club till 2024, according to renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 32-year-old entered the last year of his contract due to which there was uncertainty regarding his future at the club.
The Brazilian was destined to leave Juventus this coming summer based on the fact that he was very much a shell of the player who first arrived in Turin nearly a decade ago.
However, with Allegri’s switch to a three-man defense, Sandro has found some consistency in his play with his new role at the back as a central defender.
Sandro’s new contract details are yet to be known, He is currently one of Juventus’ highest earners at €6 million net a season.
Earlier, Juventus’ midfielder Paul Pogba suffered an injury in a 2-0 Juve win against Cremonese.
Pogba, who started the match for the first time since last April when he played for Manchester United at Liverpool only lasted a little over 20 minutes before he injured himself again and left the field in tears, heading straight down the tunnel as he was replaced by Arkadiusz Milik.
“I needed him as an added striker,” coach Massimiliano Allegri said. “In such situations you have to hope that nothing happens. Sooner or later I had to try (and start him).”
Italian media reported that the midfielder, who also started his first Serie A game since May 2016, suffered a muscle issue.
Second-placed Juventus, who on Thursday will be travelling to Sevilla for their Europa League semi-final second leg with the tie levelled at 1-1, moved eight points clear of fifth-placed AC Milan in the battle for a top-four finish and a Champions League spot.
